Houston Chronicle: Kids need to shape up this summer
July 14, 2010
“The days when classes ended for the summer and children flew from their desks to frolic in the fields are gone. Texas ranks seventh in childhood obesity and 13th in adult obesity, according to the 2010 F as in Fat report released by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Trust for America’s Health.
With children, doctors categorize obesity as a BMI at or above the 95th percentile for their age, and overweight as a BMI between the 85th and 94th percentile. Today, more than a third of America’s children are overweight or obese.”
