Houston Chronicle: Create a calm place to doze away the afternoon
August 6, 2010
“With temperatures soaring and pools crowded, sometimes you just want to tell the kids to pipe down so you can take a nap. Summer feels like the perfect time for a siesta.
Though the word siesta is Spanish, afternoon naps are a tradition from Mexico to Albania to Taiwan. They make great sense in cultures where lunch is the heaviest meal of the day; you won’t find a single bank open during a Madrid afternoon.
Americans may find it harder to slow down that way, but it’s healthful to carve out some personal time — and you’re more likely to indulge if you’ve created an inviting environment.”
